Perfect New Mom Gift Box: Tailored Tips for Postpartum Bliss

Creating the perfect new mom gift box can help boost postpartum recovery

Hi there. Carley here. Today, I want to talk to you about creating the best new mom gift box that helps the recipient feel supported and honored during postpartum. Take it from me: as a new mom of two, well, newish, receiving gifts after birth is so unique. Any gift helps the new mom feel supported in her journey and postpartum recovery.

It can get exhausting when everything that comes to the house is for the baby. Every single person that comes to visit is also there for the baby. It's important to show that new mama some love, and today, I will show you just how to do that.

What to consider before building your box

When you're creating the perfect new mom gift box, there are some essential considerations you need to consider before you even begin thinking about what to put inside. We need to think about two crucial factors.

  1. How did she give birth? Vaginal or C-section?
  2. How is she feeding her baby? Bottle, formula, breastfeeding?

Find out did she have a vaginal birth or did she have a C-section? Because the way she gave birth will significantly impact what you need to put inside this box.

If she had a vaginal birth, things that would be great to put inside would include a peri bottle herbal sitz bath, an organic soothing balm to put on her perineum area, and things to help care for herself after birth.

If she had a C-section, consider getting things like silicone scar strips or an organic C-section scar balm. This is important because it will help make this gift box feel more personal and tailor-made for her recovery.

The second important thing to consider is whether she's breastfeeding now. In this day and age, we don't want to assume that everybody is breastfeeding, no matter how they choose (or have to) feed their baby.

At Hello Postpartum, we believe it's a deeply personal decision made based on many factors, often outside of our control. So, if she's breastfeeding, consider adding some breastfeeding support tools, like the Breast Milk Booster Tea from Mummy's Organics or some organic breast pads to help keep her comfortable and dry between feeding sessions.

If she's not breastfeeding and is opting for formula, consider getting her some of our ‘Milk No More’ Weaning Tea from Earth Mama Organics. This tea will help naturally suppress breastmilk production so she can move through the milk suppression phase more comfortably.

Whether or not a mom had a vaginal birth or cesarean birth and is breastfeeding or using formula, every postpartum recovery looks completely different. And it's important when making a new mom gift box that we tailor these products to her unique journey.

At Hello Postpartum, we know that every birth looks different, but so does every postpartum recovery. So, as you think about building your new mom gift box, some other things that might be helpful to include are some self-care items.

What to add to a new mom gift box

Self-care looks so different when you are a new mom; brushing your teeth and washing your hair are all things we do daily for daily hygiene. When you're newly postpartum, those things can feel challenging. We have a lovely dry shampoo that you can consider and some really fun hair accessories that you can add.

Another option is a guided postpartum journal. This is the Postpartum Journal from Promptly created with certified therapists to help guide you through those early weeks of postpartum, where hormones are all over the place, and you might feel overwhelmed.

This journal is so beautifully made and can help you navigate that time. It looks perfect in any new mom's gift box.

Another care item you might want to consider is this lovely ‘Cloud Nine’ Postpartum Mood Support Tincture. This tincture from Milk Moon is formulated with special herbs safe for breastfeeding and postpartum recovery to help support and uplift your mood during this time. It's such a lovely addition that many new mamas can benefit from. No matter how they give birth or how they feed their baby, moods can be all over the place.

Again, if she's breastfeeding, we have a lovely All-Natural Nipple Balm. This is from Mama & Bird in Australia. Made with super lovely ingredients, all-natural. You'll find that this is one of our best sellers. We can't keep this in stock. Plus, I love the tube. It's so convenient to pop this top off rather than opening a little jar; it just gets messy.

Bath soaks are a great option, too!

Speaking of self-care. We also offer a variety of bath soaks on our website. These bath soaks are a great option for any new mom gift box, especially if she had a vaginal birth. Something like this Herbal Sitz Bath Blend from Mother Mother is like a sitz bath in a box; you can just layer this into your bathtub in some warm water and soak all of those aches and pains and swelling away.

We also carry an Organic Post-Birth Bath Tea. A midwife in Australia formulates this, and I just adore the packaging - it’s perfect for gifting! Plus, the ingredients are so intentional and supportive for postpartum recovery.

Anytime we can soak in the bath and revitalize ourselves with those minerals from Epsom salts. It is so powerful and helps soothe those achiness muscles. Again, if the person you're making this gift box for had a C-section, she'll have to remember that she can only use soaks once her doctor clears that.

Don’t sleep on the iron-boosting tea

Last but not least, before I talk about other ideas for a new mom gift box, our Iron-Boosting Tea is one of our top three bestsellers on this site. This Iron-Boosting Tea is so incredible we have multiple five-star reviews on our website. It's created by Mummy’s Organics, a midwife and daughter team in the UK, and this simple blend of nettle and rose hip can help replete iron stores.

Keep in mind, that no matter how you give birth, you will experience blood loss. C-section births and deliveries typically experience more blood loss than a vaginal birth. So, having an iron-boosting tea in a gift box is a supportive option often overlooked.

Socks socks are so important in postpartum recovery

Socks are so important in postpartum recovery. There's this theory in Chinese Medicine about cold feet, a cold womb, and a cold uterus. So we want to keep the feet warm, which will help - in this way of thinking - keep the uterus warm, which will then help promote healing and recovery.

So, a nice pair of socks is always appreciated. We have some super soft Cozy Cloud Socks on our website. And soon, we will offer a “gripper sock” option, which is great, especially if you have a c-section recovery.

Other items to consider adding to a gift box

Some other enjoyable things that you can consider would be gift cards. Think DoorDash gift cards (we love a meal delivered). An Amazon gift card, a Target gift card, a Starbucks gift card, or any sort of gift card preloaded and ready to go to one of her favorite places would be so helpful.

Other items are snacks, think trail mixes, protein bars, crackers, and some hummus tucked in there—something easy that doesn't require too much fuss. Chomp Sticks like meat or jerky sticks would be great. Anything easy to eat, one-handed, high protein, and not too much added sugar would be a lovely option to add to gift cards and some of the items we discussed today.

I also really love the idea of creating coupons for her. For example, “This is redeemable for one childcare session.” “This is redeemable for a dog walking session.”

You know, things that she may not feel comfortable asking for help with that you can quickly come up with and make it all cute. Tuck it inside and say here you go. You know, this is ready for you ever you're ready.

There are many different ways to approach creating a new mom gift box

I hope this has been helpful and given you some essential things to consider when creating a new mom gift box. Ultimately, I cannot stress how important it is to think about the person as an individual and think about their unique needs when recovering from birth.

If you want to build a new mom gift box that feels supportive and honors their unique postpartum journey, head to our website (I am super proud of this!). We have an incredible gift box-building experience that can easily walk you through the process.

We have over 100 products, super easy to shop. You can click and quickly build your cart, and then you can have the option to add one of our expert-written ebooks. These ebooks cover everything from mental health to nutrition, baby feeding, and much more. You can easily add that to your gift box.

You can also add a cute baby product because who doesn't love baby stuff? I totally get it. We have that option available for you as well. Then you can pick a card, whether a free one or one you'd like to purchase from us, and we will handwrite your message and wrap it all up perfectly to send directly to your recipient.

I can't tell you how many incredible boxes we send out every single month. I love reading your messages, seeing what you picked, and knowing that these new mom gift boxes are going to new moms in the postpartum trenches and need a little pick-me-up.

Okay, when building a new mom gift box, you need to know how she gave birth, how she's feeding her baby, and any other details about her birth that might help pick out products.

Then, consider what kind of postpartum experience you want to encourage through this gift box. Self-care is essential. Rest and relaxation, you know, recovery, whether through the repletion of minerals and nutrients or through our batheous oaks and tonics and tinctures.

You know, there are so many different ways to approach this box. Take the time to think about who your recipient is and what kind of feelings you want to encourage.
